Unlike other Warframes, Umbra retains his consciousness, that of Dax soldier Isaah's father. Tortured and transformed into a warframe by Ballas as punishment for uncovering Ballas' treachery, then forced to murder his own son, Umbra carries both incredible power and profound trauma. Umbra's sentience allows for unprecedented tactical coordination, with Umbra acting independently when the Operator is out. The bond between the Operator and Umbra transcends the typical Transference connection—they share memories, pain, and purpose. Together, they slew Ballas. But recently, they've discovered that Ballas is still alive. Umbra... did not take it well.
